Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon’s biggest competitor is Amazon’s The Lord of The Rings series: The Rings of Power. Though Amazon failed to touch the mark with The Wheel of Time, which was prophesied to be rivaling the likes of Game of Thrones, the streaming network is leaving no stones unturned with The Rings of Power. The Lord of The Rings prequel is said to be the most expensive TV show to have been ever made, and that alone for season 1.
While things are looking really bright for House of The Dragon, as the second season will begin production the next year, Rings of Power is going through some significant changes as well for its season 2. For a lot of fans, from both the Game of Thrones and The Lord of The Rings community, it came as a shock when actor Joseph Mawle (Benjen Stark from Game of Thrones), whose mysterious character Adar was hyped even before the series was released, announced his departure from the prequel show.
Mawle posted on his Twitter account: “I loved my time exploring middle earth and diving into Tolkien’s mythology. I’m so honoured that the character was liked. He cared deeply about telling you his story. Though as an actor it remains my wish, my job description to explore new characters and worlds. Wishing all the Best to cast and crew for S2, I’ll be cheering you on from the sidelines X.”
