Game of Thrones alum Gwendoline Christie may be famous for playing Brienne of Tarth on HBO’s fantasy epic, but since then her acting résumé has exploded into a plethora of wide-ranging roles in some of the biggest franchises. From Star Wars to The Hunger Games, and now The Sandman, Christie has managed to impress fans and critics alike with her acting chops. However, her most recent outing in the DC Universe, The Sandman, was initially met with resentment, due to her playing a gender-swapped version of Lucifer, a character famously portrayed by Tom Ellis on the Netflix (previously on Fox) series Lucifer.
Well, Christie couldn’t care any less, and she gave the performance of a lifetime. After all, it was the kind of role she was looking for after Game of Thrones, and it soon became her new favorite. At the San Diego Comic-Con 2022 press room interview, she noted, “I wanted the challenge so badly to play something very different from Brienne.”
She continued, “Who I loved playing, but I want to play such a wide range of roles and the fact that [Neil Gaiman and Allan Heinberg] could see me as that character was invigorating to me. They could see something in me that would work.”
“It was important to think about [the physicality of] this: that even if I was going have to wings, if I was going to be still, there’d be a reason for it. If I was going to be precise, there would be an absolute reason for it.”
Gwendoline Christie was brilliant as Brienne in Game of Thrones, there is no doubt she will do an awesome job portraying the devilishly handsome/beautiful ruler of Hell. Even The Sandman’s showrunners are in awe of her performance, as co-showrunner Allen Heinberg said this to Empire Magazine about her casting, “Lucifer is this Bowie-esque creature in the comic book and I thought, ‘Well who is a bigger fucking rock star than Gwendoline Christie?’”

A long-time nerd and a big-time foodie.
And she was freakin AMAZING! Her facial expressions were phenomenal! Like Emilia Clarke as Daenerys kind of phenomenal! She added such depth to the character. I completely loved it and hated her (the character that is, she did such a great job)!
