At the end of Game of Thrones, the Night King and White Walkers were defeated, but will they make an appearance in the upcoming House of the Dragon?
As the Targaryen dynasty nears its end, Game of Thrones highlighted that the fabled White Walkers would no longer be a threat to the realm. This change comes about when Arya kills the Night King. Now if ever the White Walkers ever come back, they may be more potent. And if this happens, it could have disastrous consequences for the people of Westeros. So will they be appearing in House of the Dragon?
Quick answer: House of the Dragon will not feature White Walkers.
The White Walkers were created during the First Men’s battle, 8,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. The Children of the Forest created them to cause the longest winter in history. However, the White Walkers also descended upon Westeros and attacked the living.
After Westeros won the battle, they pushed the White Walkers back into the North and built the Wall to keep them out. The White Walkers remained hidden for thousands of years but returned in 298 AC. This led to another battle where the Night King and White Walkers were defeated.
Even though it’s still 150-200 years before the White Walkers come back, they won’t be featured as villains or characters in House of the Dragon. But they will probably be mentioned in passing because even though some people don’t believe the stories about them, they’re still legendary figures whose stories would be passed down for generations.
The return of the White Walkers in the House of the Dragontimeline is still a mystery to many. Until now, they had been dormant for centuries. They appeared and made their way through the lands beyond the Wall in Game of Thrones.
With that being said, there have been many talks lately about the possible return of White Walkers in House of the Dragon. And while this hype might sound lucrative to others, there’s no way that the White Walkers will appear in House of the Dragon.
The prequel show is quite the undertaking for George R.R. Martin. It’s demanding his time and focus, which means it’s yet another project preventing him from completing a book that’s been long overdue for quite some time now.
